Philippaerts injured; Paulin selected for Motocross of Nations
David Philippaerts of Yamaha
Monster Energy Motocross Team will be unable to race for the incoming
64th Motocross of Nations due to an injury he sustained while showing
off raging speed during the 2nd Moto race. Apparently, Philippaerts
twisted his right knee and was unable to complete the race securing a
third position in the FIM MX1-GP World Championship on the factory
YZ450FM. The rider immediately went back to his home in Milan for a
medical check-up that revealed that, although it was not serious enough
to need surgery, his knee would require adequate rest for a period of
twenty days before the 2008 world champion could begin light cycling
routines.
On the other hand, luck comes to Gautier
Paulin as Team Yamaha chose him to represent France in the MX1 category
with a YZ450FM. "While I am sorry for Christophe this is an exciting
news for me and I am proud to represent France as part of a strong team.
There is not much time to prepare but we are working hard now to get
ready on the bike and be as fast as possible for Thunder Valley”, Paulin
said.
The 20-year-old racer, Gautier Paulin, is completely
prepared to enter the race for the third time this year after a
successful second half in the 2010 MX2-GP campaign. His success came in
the form of a victory for the YZ250FM in Holland and four podium
results from the final five rounds.
Upon being told
that he wasn’t able to compete Philippaerts said, "This is the last
thing I wanted to happen because the news at Fermo that we could go and
race for our country was fantastic for us and all the fans. I’m lucky
that the injury is not a third-degree tear because that would mean
surgery. However I cannot ride nor do anything for nearly three weeks
now; if the ligament has any more stress then it might go completely and
that would put me out for quite a while. I want to thank all the people
that supported me at the weekend and through the season and I am sorry I
cannot do the Nations for them, the team and all our sponsors. I really
hope that Italy can do well."
The 2010 Red Bull FIM
Motocross of Nations has begun to build some momentum as several
countries have already selected superb racers set to battle for the
event. The race is scheduled for September 25th and 26th at Thunder
Valley in Colorado and many expect it to add to the never-ending history
of the MON

Extreme Motocross
The 2009 MX
Championship has already started getting riders, motorcycles and their
crews in trouble. These are by far the coolest pictures we’ve come
across yet and by the small unstained blue on the front fender, we can
confidently say that we’re dealing with a Yamaha dirt bike.
Apparently,
as the bikes become better performing, organizers make sure that tracks
are even harder to race on and that’s what the audience loves about
motocross racing.

Livia Lancelot goes to Mantova with plans of winning the feminine World MX Championship
Among the many promising themes planned for this weekend
on the track of Mantua, there is also the appointment with the French
MX pilot, Livia Lancelot. At only 20 years, the skilled Kawasaki pilot
arrives for the first time in Mantua with the clear purpose of defending
that much craved first place in the Women World Championship.
Italy opens its gates for this weekend’s Grand Prix and although the track is a first for Livia, she has great expectations for a weekend to remember despite the tight schedule of the MX1 and MX2 categories.
The big challenge involves only women and it is divided in five tests that took place last Sunday in Bulgaria, but the decisive card announces on being played in the next two days so stay tuned.
Predictions talk about the beautiful Livia Lancelot-pilot for team GPKR- as being the favorite by far as it runs for the same team as the Pourcel brothers did, but let’s see where it come from before hoping any more or less related to its performance.

Born on February 11th 1988 in Paris, Livia has proved
having great riding skills ever since it was a child and now, in its
twenties, the young French brings back on the scene the image of the
pilot girl combining beauty, talent and, hopefully, great results on the
motocross track’s slopes.
As a child, Livia first discovered its passion for motorcycles at the age of five years, when it receives a PW 50. The step towards racing is short and Livia immediately wins the league FFM. At fourteen years it makes a in the 125 and after a year of apprenticeship docks in the French league where Junior puts behind many boys.
A great step in the girl’s career is made at 17 years, when Livia, participates in the first edition of Women’s World Championship trials unique. She obtained a decent third place. In 2006 it heads once again to that third place, the title going to Prumm, despite a fall that makes her lose the leadership race of 250.

In 2007 it joins team GPKR Kawasaki, moved his residence
in Belgium, but that craved title does not arrive because of an
accident at the beginning of the season which resulted in a fracture of
the clavicle, and then when it recovers obtains a second in the league
breaks the ligaments of the knee.
The dream fades, winner is still Prumm, but 2008 seems to be the year right: last Sunday, the opening of the World, Livia became find ready winning the Grand Prix of Bulgaria and finishing the second round and the first place.
But Lancelot will not have easy life: the rivals are not lacking, beginning with the champion in office Katherine Prumm, but arrive at Nuvolari not in perfect shape having injured in a race of the Belgian championship. Other girls to be considered will be the German Papenmeier and Franke, America Fiolek.

Positive race debut for the 2009 Model Year Aprilia MXV 4.5
With less than two
weeks remaining before the start of the World Motocross Championship,
Team Aprilia Off Road showed its hand on Monday, March 24th at the fifth
round of the Italian championship: the 2009 Model Year Aprilia MXV 4.5.
It is a profoundly redesigned bike that operates around a powerful 77° V twin engine. The main difference in respect to the previous version is a more rigid yet lighter frame, including upright anterior latticework with a different diameter and material. The gas tank has also been moved to the area under the saddle. The box filter was lifted again to better concentrate the bike’s weight. Other changes include the posterior frame, home to a new undersaddle and double-exit exhaust that is about 2 kg lighter than the previous version. In effect, these alterations changed the weight distribution and decreased the bike’s overall mass by almost 4 kg.
Tighter radiators allow for more compact conveyor belts that improve the overall ergonomics.
The motorcycle, in the pre-series configuration, was entrusted to Fabien Izoird, who marked the 8th-best time in Sunday morning’s MX1 time practice. In the first fraction, the French rider was immediately slowed down by a pair of fallen riders in front of him. He was thus forced to mount a comeback that allowed him to move from 18th to 11th place. At the start of the second heat, Izoird’s MXV 4.5 took off in the lead of the group. The Frenchman, relieved of his position by Antonio Cairoli (Yamaha), battled for the podium for half the race until a fall caused him to fall back and finish 11th.
Cedric Melotte instead raced an Aprilia MXV 4.5 Factory. With the third-best time, the Belgian rider had a spectacular Race 1 in which he came back from 9th to 2nd place overall behind the international Mx2 champion, Antonio Cairoli. While battling for the podium, Melotte registered the race’s fastest lap with a time of 1.51:281.
Slowed down at the start of Race 2, he made contact with an adversary in the initial phase of the race and inflicted irrevocable damage to his anterior brake. His withdrawal was inevitable.
From this point on, all of Team Aprilia Off Road’s energy will be directed towards the World MX1 Motocross Championship that will take off on Sunday, April 6th in Valkenswaard, Holland.

The first half of the Italian motocross championship has
been completed and the final phase began on March 16th in Cingoli
(Macerata province) at the third-to-last round on the schedule. On
Saturday, the qualifying sessions took place on the difficult and tricky
track in Le Marche. An optimal Cedric Melotte (Aprilia Mxv 4.5) marked
the fourth-best time of the Mx1 class. It was instead a tormented round
for Fabien Izoird (Aprilia Mxv 4.5), who wasn’t able to find the right
balance for the track, where he had never before raced. The young
Frenchman clocked in the 24th-best time overall.
The next morning’s warm-up allowed Izoird to gain further confidence on the track to the point that he was able to finish 6th in Race 1. Yet in the second heat scrimmage, he clashed with an opponent and was forced back to 14th place. From there he mounted a comeback and finished in 7th place. In Race 2, he was able to climb back from 9th to 7th place, battling it out at long with the top riders.

The opening fraction saw Melotte start well as he
settled into 8th place during the first lap. Cedric forced the pace and
made his way into 6th place before being hindered by a slip in the ninth
lap. The Belgian completed a few more turns before heading to the box
early due an anterior vibration that was caused by the fall.
Melotte wasn’t able to repeat his brilliant Race 1 start in the conclusive session. He instead found himself in 17th place after the first lap but nonetheless climbed back into 9th place. Then, being a bit fatigued, he slid during the last lap and fell back to 13th place.
It has been confirmed that the “Step 3” evolution of the official MXV 4.5s will be debuted on March 23-24th at Cardano al Campo (VA) before the World Motocross Championship begins on April 6th in Valkenswaard (Holland). The race in Cardano al Campo will take place the day after Easter, and perhaps the debut will reveal a few pleasant surprises...

Tyla Rattray wins MX2 class and Tommy Searle snatches victory in the super final
Second pre-season victory for Rattray after Valence
Rattray, clearing in top form going into the 2008 season
said he enjoyed the ride on the steep and unforgiving Shropshire
circuit with its most famous obstacles, the deep ‘bomb hole’, the heart
stopping whoop section and the ominous 1 in 3 “Hawkstone Hill”. “This is
a very good circuit and I enjoyed the ride today. We had good sunny
weather and it was great to get another pre-season victory,” the South
African said.
Simpson from Team KTM UK wins first moto
Shaun Simpson from the new Team KTM UK won the first
moto with Rattray finishing fifth after getting tangled up in a scrap
that also left teammate Searle back at sixteenth place. Simpson also
went out fast in the second, only to be overtaken by the two KTM factory
riders. Tyla then seized the advantage and crossed the line in front of
Searle, a result that secured him the MX2 victory for the day.
Simpson’s advantage slipped away after he stalled in the second moto and
he finished half way back in the field.
Searle wins super final
Tommy Searle’s moment of glory came at the end of the
day when he won the super final where the MX2 riders had a start
advantage on the MX1 competitors. Tyla did not have a perfect start and
trailed Tommy who led throughout the race. Shaun Simpson was also up
with the front runners but he was eventually overtaken by the bigger MX1
bikes.
Everts pleased with MX2 result
KTM’s MX team boss Stefan Everts said he was pleased
with the overall performance of Rattray, Searle and Simpson, who between
them dominated the MX2 section. Impressive also on the results sheets
were the two young talents from the newly formed KTM-supported GP
Juniors Team Champ Jeremy van Horebeek who was fourth and sixth in the
two MX2 motos and Joel Roelants who was ninth and sixth in a field of
some 30 riders on the grid.
KTM factor rider Max Nagl was a highly anticipated competitor in the MX1 class but unfortunately was not able to race on Sunday. Nagl woke in the early hours of Sunday morning with painful neck cramps and was unable to start. Dutchman Marc de Reuver scored a 3:1 result in the MX1 motos for victory in that class.

KTM recruits bright spark FMX talent Petr Pilat as factory rider
KTM, In keeping with
its policy to encourage bright young talent, has signed bright spark
Czech FMX rider Petr Pilat to join the stable of international class
factory riders now competing for the Austrian manufacturer.
Professional, thoughtful and hard working
Pit Beirer, KTM’s Offroad Director said he expected big things from the latest recruit to the KTM factory team. "Petr
is still very young and we have signed him for the 2008/2009 seasons.
He’s not just a very likeable guy, he’s also very professional and he
plans his tricks very carefully. I predict a great future for him and I
think when he gets the experience in international competition he will
be able to reach the same high standards as the top American riders," Beirer said.
Eyes on the world elite
FMX is a sport with its root in the USA but events like
the Red Bull X-Fighters (www.redbullxfighters.com), which this year has a
six-event calendar (April: Mexico; May: Brazil and Italy; June: USA and
July: Germany and Spain) is opening it up to a huge international
audience. In his first year for KTM Petr will be competing in the
X-Fighters and other top events where he will ride against the best FMX
exponents in the world.
Flawless back flip at just 14
Pilat, now 17 made a name for himself very early in his
career when at the age of 14 he performed a flawless back flip before a
crowd of 17,000 at Prague’s Freestyle Motocross competition in the Sazka
stadium. He is the youngest rider ever to complete the tricky maneuver.
Already a veteran
Despite his youth, Pilat is already a very experienced
rider. He contested his first motocross race at the age of six and won
his first race at just seven. By the time he was nine he was already the
Czech champion in the 65 cc class and at 10 he advanced to Freestyle,
enjoying the adrenaline rush and making the commitment to “Live to
Ride”. He has also confronted and mastered the challenge of major
injury. Back in 2004, at the tender age of 13 he crashed, breaking both
arms and injuring his lungs, liver and spleen but he was never
discouraged enough to abandon his passion to ride.

The Italian Motocross Championship has begun
The season has begun
for team Aprilia Off Road. It happened in Tuscany at Montevarchi
(Arezzo, Italy) on Sunday, February 17, at the first round of the
Italian Motocross Championship. It was a much-awaited event,
particularly Cedric Melotte’s official reentry into competition (atop an
Aprilia MXV 4.5) after a long period of rest due to the knee injury
that held him back last season. The strong Belgian rider demonstrated
his recovery by coming out like a lion in both fractions (which had
tough starts). In Race 1, he mounted a comeback from the penultimate
position after being blocked by the bike of one of his fallen
competitors. Cedric threw himself into a spectacular game of catch-up
and battled back to 16th place. In the final fraction, he again took off
slowly in the central group but made his way to 10th place before
noticing a vibration in his posterior frame. He thus stopped in the box
just a few laps from the finish to get to the root of the problem
(likely the break-down of welding).
Aprilia was also satisfied by Fabien Izoird’s debut atop a twin MXV 4.5 with Team JK Racing. The Swiss rider was blocked in at both starts but was able to battle back to 12th and 10th place respectively.
The official Aprilia MXV 4.5s on the track at Montevarchi remain in the “Step 2” configuration. Technicians and test riders continue to work on the evolutionary “Step 3” that we will see in the first race of the international season.
